Historic Key West Cemetery

The “SAVE-A-GRAVE” Project helps to preserve the unique character of the iconic City of Key West Cemetery by becoming an Adoptive Guardian of an unmarked or abandoned plot. Please either stop by the City of Key West Sexton’s Office at:
701 Passover Lane from Monday - Friday between 8:30 - 3:30
or call (305) 809-3986.
You can also contact Old City Hall at 510 Greene Street at either (305) 292-6718 or
email us at hfkf@bellsouth.net.
Or, you can contact one of the following individuals:
christopher.varela@cityofkeywest-fl.gov
rbrittain@cityof keywest-fl.gov
mmatter@cityofkeywest-fl.gov

Adoptive guardians can choose from the following:
$100 - Unmarked Adult Plot
$125 - Unmarked Child Plot
$150 - Marked Plot
$175 - Featured Plot (a well-known resident or a site highlighted on the Cemetery Stroll).

Our “sister” project is the ongoing Cemetery Fence Restoration effort. Each ten-foot section of wrought-iron fencing which encloses our beautiful Cemetery can be dedicated with a customized memorial plaque.
$600 - Fence Section/Plaque

In addition, the Historic Florida Keys Foundation has an agreement with the City of Key West to provide preservation services for the Cemetery.

Foundation staff offer walking tours of the Cemetery twice a week. For further information and reservations please call 305-292-6718 or click here to email.

These tours raise dedicated funds for Cemetery preservation, and notably, in October 2005, were featured nationwide on PBS television’s “Cemetery Special.”

Other Foundation contributions:

A handsome cast metal historical marker inside the main gate

Gravestone funded for Frank Adams, the first African American Monroe County deputy killed in the line of duty

A revised and expanded walking tour brochure of the Cemetery
